We say goodbye to a wife, friend and islander, Paula Redpath. Paula passed away at home on Sunday morning, January 10th 2010, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She leaves behind her husband Jeff (Mal) Malakowski and Terra her doggy companion.
Paula, a beautiful spirit, enjoyed nature, adventures, books, a mowed lawn, her dogs, warm sunshine and spending time with Mal. She was born in Ontario Canada, enjoyed her youth in Vancouver Canada and moved to St Croix where she met the love of her life. Paula and Mal moved to Orcas Island, and together built their dream home in Bartwood. There they operated the Beach House On Orcas until Paula fell ill. It was an honor and privilege to know her.
We will say our farewell to Paula at an Open House at Mal and Paula’s home at 64 Foxcove Court, Bartwood Estates on Sunday January 24, 2010 from 2 pm to 5 pm.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you donate to Pancreatic Cancer Action at https://pancan.org/ in her name.

Paula,
A spirit that will always seek adventure,
Inspired by the test.
A spirit that finds the answers,
As no question should be left unknown.
A spirit true to herself
And also true to us.
A spirit challenged but not beat,
She lives on in each of us.
We will see her in every sunrise and sunset,
Bathing in her presence.
We will hear her words in time of need,
Comforting and informing.
We will feel her passion in the Nor’easter storm;
As she is a driving force.
Her fragrance recognized after a spring rain;
Soft, refreshing and new.
Thank you for being a part of our lives.

Vicki, I don’t even know what to say here. We stayed at the Beach House for 6 years. We became friends with Paula and Mal. We stayed last August when we knew Paula was sick. She gave me a pink stone heart to hold always to remember her. I wouldn’t let go of that. I have emailed but no response. I finally emailed On Island to Denise & Dan (Eclipse Tours) and they told me Paula was gone. I didn’t know when, until googling her name tonight. I Thank you for the picture of Paula we printed out with the article we found. That is the Paula we saw, even into late last year. We met a couple of their friends, and we are going to be on Orca’s 8/21 – 8/25. I don’t know if Mal is still at the house? I don’t have any info on the friends we did meet when we were there. We are staying at Cabins on the Point……but Orca’s will Never be the same to us without Paula. I wish we had more info on the friends we met while there. We would both really like to see Mal if he is there. But not infringe if he doesn’t want to see people. And we would really like to connect with someone who cared about Paula, just for………Caring I guess & not knowing. We would have Been there for the 1/24 open house. I wish we had known.
From me to probably only myself…….Paula, You were a Kindred Spirit to me. You were Open, Honest, Caring, and full of love. I will Always Miss you……..and Hopefully I will see you “there”.
Vicki, I don’t know if you were Paula’s friend, or a writer for the paper or both. But when we are there in August, I want to connect with Paula at least in spirit. She trully Was a Driving Force. With Openness, Honesty and Trust. I trully Cared about that Lady.
