Paul Taylor Dance Company again visits Orcas Island –next Saturday night!

See dance world’s legend Paul Taylor’s Taylor 2 Dance Company at Orcas Center on Saturday, March 9 at 7: 30 pm.

Choreographer Paul Taylor is the last living member of the pantheon that created America’s indigenous art of modern dance.  At an age when most artists’ best work is behind them, Mr. Taylor continues to win public and critical acclaim for the vibrancy, relevance and power of his creations.

Hailed for uncommon musicality, athleticism, humor and emotionality, Mr. Taylor has set movement to music so memorably that for many people it is impossible to hear certain orchestral works and popular songs and not think of his dances.  He has set works to an eclectic mix that includes Medieval masses, Renaissance dances, baroque concertos, classical symphonies, and scores by Debussy, Cage, Feldman, Ligeti and Pärt; Ragtime, Tango, Tin Pan Alley, Barbershop Quartets and The Mamas and The Papas; and telephone time announcements, loon calls, and laughter.

Mr. Taylor has received nearly every important honor given to artists in the United States and established the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company in 1993 to ensure that his works could be seen by audiences all over the world, unhindered by economic or technical limitations.

The Orcas Center program includes: Airs, music by George Frideric Handel, Runes, music specially composed and recorded by Gerald Busby and Piazolla Caldera, music by Astor Piazzolla and Jerzy Peterburshsky .

“Taylor 2 is a kind of a miracle… All of the dancers are considerable talents [who] unite fearlessness with skill.” New York Times

“The joys in watching the six-member Taylor 2 Dance Company perform…wasn’t just from the performances themselves. There was also the realization that, with Taylor 2, the works of Paul Taylor – one of the modern dance world’s leading choreographers – can now be shared with audiences in even the smallest venues. These fine performances showed that, in many respects, the dancers of Taylor 2 are No. 2 in name only.”  Asbury Park Press

“It’s small, travels light, and packs some of the best modern dance around.”     The Sunday Star Ledger
