Jon Prescott, Patient Navigator

The guest speaker at the June 14 Cancer Support Group meeting will be Jon Prescott, Patient Navigator of Island Hospital Cancer Care Center.

The Center relocated in January 2012 to the beautiful new Medical Arts Pavilion on the Island Hospital campus. Jon will provide information about the Center’s relationship with other cancer treatment centers and hospitals. Patient navigation will:
• Advocate for you within the healthcare system
• Connect you and your family to resources and support services such as home care services, hospice services, nutrition services, transportation and accommodations
• Provide access to financial support for medications and co-payments
• Enhance your quality of life, sense of autonomy and emotional well-being
• Facilitate communication between you and your healthcare providers
• Provide information about your diagnosis and treatment

The meeting will also include time for sharing among members. Staying connected with others who are or have walked the same path where you find yourself is always encouraging and helpful.

Whether you are a patient, caregiver, relative, or friend of someone with cancer, you are welcome to come and share and hear others’ stories. This confidential no-cost group meets monthly for mutual support. In July we will be celebrating two years as an ongoing support group.
