Patricia Slabaugh reviewing her work, on display at the Orcas Artworks during August.

The Orcas Island Artworks features pastel paintings by Patricia Slabaugh through the month of August.

When Patricia describes pastels, they sound like gourmet candy: “I bought a box of Nupastel hard pastels and Rembrandt soft pastels, but that was not enough. My beautiful collection now includes earthy pastel pencils by Derwent from England and softer, vibrant Sabillo made in the Czech Republic as well as additional sticks of softer pastels from Unison which melt on the paper and the powdery French Sennelier that magically cling to paper in glorious colors.”

The paintings in this exhibition derive from Patricia’s travels over the last ten years. “I like to capture a moment in time in my paintings – my first sight of Abbaey de Senanque after descending through early morning Provincial fog; a shepherd’s hut in the grass high above the Dordogne River while hiking a country road; Renoir’s garden after visiting his home and studio near the Mediterranean . . .”

The Artworks is open daily from 10 to 6.
