From the Montessori School
Orcas Islanders are in for a sweet treat! The bountiful harvest from our hundred-year-old orchard at Orcas Montessori School provides a key ingredient for the school’s fall fundraiser. In recent years, Islanders have enjoyed classic apple pies and apple crisps. This fall, the school is selling organic apple crisps.
Like the hot lunches served at the school, the apple crisps contain all organic ingredients, from the butter and oats to the flour, sugar and cinnamon.
The proceeds from the sale go to the school’s Appleseed Fund. The funds will be used to match donations made by community members to support students needing financial aid. With a record number of families needing help to keep their children in school, this year’s sale is vital.
The crisps are sold frozen, ready-to-bake for $16 each. They can be purchased directly from the school by calling 376-5350. They also will be available November 19 at the school’s Island Market crisp and wreath sale.
Orcas Montessori School, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, provides a dynamic three-year educational program for 2 ½ to 6-year-olds. The school was founded in 1988 and is dedicated to helping children develop self-motivation and independent thinking skills.
