Court of Appeals Division 1, Position 3 – Cecily Hazelrigg-Hernandez

Law professor and Public Defender Cecily Hazelrigg-Hernandez offers an incisive intellect, broad knowledge of the law and plenty of experience to an office in which she will be asked to review the decisions of lower courts for fair and accurate rulings.

San Juan County Superior Court Judge – Kathryn Loring

Loring is running unopposed, but we endorsed her anyway because we like the effect her firm-but-fair demeanor has had on the law enforcement and judicial culture of our county.

San Juan County District Court Judge – Carolyn Jewett

Carolyn Jewett, currently Deputy Prosecutor for San Juan County, has prosecuted every contested infraction and criminal case to come through our District Court for the last three years.  Level-headed, committed to
fair and equal treatment under the law and smart as they come, Ms. Jewett sees this position as an opportunity to improve the administration of justice for the long-term good of the community.

Issues:

Yes for Homes – Recommend Vote Yes

The average home price in SJC is out of reach for the average working family, even for a two-adult multiple-job household .  We have good models for affordable housing on the islands.  Let’s fund them!

Initiative 1631 Clean Energy Economy – Recommend Vote Yes

Crafted by a long list of stakeholders including petroleum workers, environmentalists, Tribes, and social justice advocates, this initiative isn’t perfect, but it will accomplish a heck of a lot more towards moving Washington to clean energy and lowering carbon emissions than anything the state legislature has passed.
