Some people took the "Frozen In Time" theme seriously

By Martin Taylor

Hundreds of hardy locals and not- so- locals, along with an even larger crowd of onlookers, took the plunge at Cascade Lake to ring in the New Year. At precisely 11 a.m. on Sunday January 1, the shout went up to “charge” into the lake.

As you can imagine the water is cold! So within t3o minutes the water is once again clear and calm and all have retired to dry off and change clothes.

The event is organized by Orcas Island Rowing Club  and  happens every New Year at the same time. This year was the 14th Plunge. The first happened in 1999.

The club’s “Pure Pleasure”  annual dinner is happening very soon and all are invited. For more information, go to www.orcasislandrowing.org .
