The Orcas Odd Fellows Hall was the venue for all things Halloween on Monday night, as a crowd of approximately 250 people gathered to celebrate. It was a beautiful night and an island-style party. Once the rain had stopped, there was a fire pit going out back.
The evening started with a kids Halloween party, then free monster movie – Young Frankenstein, then the main event – the dance.
For this main event, the wonderful Jefferson Rose band from Seattle played a danceable mix of latin, funk, New Orleans, R&B, and soul music. The crowd loved it and the dancing was non-stop, except during intermission when best costume awards from generous donors like Inn at Ship Bay, Tres Fabu, Hogstone’s, Ian Van Gelder acupuncture, and many more were presented.
The party is a non-profit fundraiser has been the go-to Halloween event for well over a decade to support the Odd Fellows Scholarship awards and Community Giving Fund.
“The costumes just keep getting better,” says Jay Kimball. “Islanders invest serious time in their artful creations. And have fun seeing all the costumes created by others.”
