— from Robert W. Bishop DVM, F-ABMDI, Island County Coroner —
(The body of David Fleischmann, a long-time, well-known waiter from Rosario Resort and the Madrona Restaurant, was discovered June 24 on Whidbey Island. The following report is from the Island County Coroner.)
David Fleischmann, a 66-year old man from Orcas Island, was at his work around noon on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 on Orcas Island. He did not show up for his scheduled work shift at 4 p.m. that afternoon. He was seen eating dinner at a different restaurant on Orcas Island later [that day]. His vehicle was later located at the ferry dock.
That evening he is seen in surveillance tapes getting on the 10:30 p.m. ferry sailing from Orcas Island to Anacortes. David is seen several more times on the ferry and the last time was around 11:40 p.m. as he is walking to the back of the ferry. He does not get off the ferry when it docks in Anacortes.
The next day (Wednesday, June 24, 2015) around 3:37 p.m. a beach walker phones 911 after discovering David in the surf along Moran Beach, north Whidbey Island.
Following the autopsy the cause of death was determined to be saltwater drowning.
