Happy campers at Camp Horizon, now on a kitchen remodel campaign

Don Webster, an Orcas Island Lions Club member, has volunteered at the Lions Camp Horizon in Blaine, Washington, for 11 years. He has seen firsthand the needs of this unique camp and knew that the kitchen remodel would be costly, but was long overdue. A recent donation from Orcas Lions of $3000 was gratefully received and will help towards the last $15,000 needed to complete this $90,000 project.

Lions Camp Horizon is a resident and day camp started in 1974 for adults with disabilities. The camp accepts individuals with special needs conditions and gives them the opportunity to participate in numerous recreational activities. All ages 14 and older may participate, with the average age being around 40 years old.  It is truly an amazing camp experience!

There have been campers, staff and volunteers, like Don, who have come from Orcas every summer. Of course, more volunteers are always welcome. This year, if you can’t volunteer, you can help with the final costs for the kitchen remodel. Maybe it won’t be $3000 (or maybe it will), but any amount makes a difference. You can make your donation through Go Fund Me: www.gofundme.com/camp-horizons-kitchen-remodel. Donations can also be sent to:  Lions Camp Horizon, 7506 Gemini Street, Blaine, WA 98230.  For more information, contact Don Webster, 360-472-1230, or secondvp@lionscamphorizon.org
