Orcas Library is hosting a Health & Wellness Week starting Monday, June 10 through Thursday, June 13.
Librarian Holly King writes, “The focus of the event is to teach individuals how to take charge of their own aging process – a concept known as ‘Active Aging.’ Through a series of five lectures, six fitness classes, and even a cooking demonstration, participants will learn simple techniques for maintaining their physical, spiritual, mental and financial well-being. ”

TRANSFORMATIONAL MOVEMENT LESSONS WITH CHRISTOPHER EVANS
Monday, June 10, 10 – 11 am @ Senior Center: In TML, students perform a series of movements designed to bring greater awareness to their capabilities, working through a series of gentle, comfortable steps that involve thinking, sensing, moving, and visualizing. Students develop enhanced awareness of habitual patterns and rigidities. They expand options for moving with increased sensitivity, learning to eliminate unnecessary effort, attend to their whole self, and mobilize intention into action.

Monday, June 10, 11 am – 12 pm @ Public Library: The most common concerns I hear about aging are painful joints, unpleasant side effects of heart medication, memory loss, and fear of dementia. Fortunately, there are some easy, relatively inexpensive things you can do to prevent these problems, and decrease or even reverse them if you already have them.
GROUP RIDE WITH JOLENE VERSAILLES
Tuesday, June 11, 8 – 9 am @ Orcas Athletics: The Group Ride class consists of 50 minutes worth of pedaling, from warm up to cool down, with lots of hills and races and sprints in between. Everybody rides to their level, it can be as hard or as easy as they choose. Bring a towel to mop up sweat and a bottle of water. Arrive for class at least 10 minutes early for instructions on bike set up.
MEDICARE: GETTING STARTED WITH MICHAEL MOSS
Tuesday, June 11, 2 – 3 pm @ Public Library: Facing your first encounter with Medicare can be daunting, to say the least. Join SHIBA volunteer Michael Moss as he explains the basics, including the differences in the three parts, and optional drug coverage.

Tuesday, June 11, 6 – 7:30 pm @ Center Works Studio: Come learn about both Pilates and Gyrotonic movement systems at our studio Open House. Thursday, June 13, 2 – 3 pm @ Public Library: Pain is your body’s way of sending a warning to your brain. Christopher an expert in brain reorganization through movement. The movement is designed to reeducate the way one uses their body, in order to make the impossible possible.
HATHA FLOW YOGA WITH A.B.MALOY
Thursday June 13, 5:30 – 7:00 pm @ Orcas Mandala Studio: This class is an exploration for new students AND those who want to return to the deep basics and rediscover their “beginner’s mind and heart. This class will include an introduction to pranayama (Breathing) and meditation/mindfulness practice.
