Orcas Island Library presents a Hybrid Author Event with Karl Marlantes on the Library’s South Lawn and by Zoom meeting on September 9 at 6 p.m.
Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Karl Marlantes, New York Times-bestselling author of Matterhorn and What It Is Like to Go to War, comes to the library to discuss his new award winning novel Deep River, a rich family saga about Finnish immigrants who settle and tame the Pacific Northwest, set against the early labor movements, World War I, and the upheaval of early twentieth-century America.
To attend in-person, RSVP to cdapogny@orcaslibrary.org. To attend by Zoom meeting, register at this Zoom meeting link.

The whole novel is, in my opinion, incredibly relevant: immigration problems, income inequality problems, racism…all of those problems that Ino is dealing with and organizing about are problems we have today and we still need people to get out there and carry the water…I call it doing the great work…the great work is something literature can help with.
