Once again this fall, Orcas Island voters will mail in ballots for the General Election, to be held on Nov. 3. In mid-October, mail-in ballots will be sent to every registered voter in San Juan County.
As well as state ballot measure and County levy lid lift increasing property taxes, voters on Orcas Island will decide whether to establish a Parks and Recreation District on the island, and choose between candidates in several races: Orcas Island School Board (2 positions); Orcas Island Fire District (2 positions); Eastsound Sewer District Commissioner; and Parks and Recreation Commissioner.
Orcas Issues will run candidates’ responses to questions in all the above races. Beginning on Oct. 1, it will publish the opposing candidates in the race for Orcas Island School District Position#1 (Jim Sullivan and Chris Sutton), then Orcas Fire District Position #3 (Barbara Bedell and Pierrette Guimond), then Eastsound Sewer District Position #3 (Harvey Aldort and Greg Ayers) , Orcas Island School District Position #2 (Bob Connell and Tony Ghazel), Orcas Parks and Recreation District Position #1 (Marian O’Brien and Vicki Vandermay) and Orcas Fire District Position #2 (Duff Andrews and Clyde Duke).
