Orcas Island Park and Recreation District is pleased to announce a partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Orcas Island to replace the playground at Buck Park.
Repair and replacement of the playscape at Buck Park has been on the long-range plan for OIPRD for several years, with the district working on the details based on budgeting and other criteria. Enter the Orcas Island Kiwanis Club. The Kiwanis Club’s desire to create a meaningful and long-lasting impact for the youth of the island was a perfect fit for Buck Park and presented an excellent opportunity for a public-private partnership.
By combining Kiwanis’ significant contribution with budgeted public funding, OIPRD will be able to create a vastly improved space. The new space will be designed with a focus on full accessibility, providing opportunities for all members of our community.
This month, OIPRD and Kiwanis representatives will begin the design process, with a goal of having the new playscape area installed for the community in 2023. In keeping with the mission of the Orcas Island Kiwanis Club, opportunities will exist for volunteers to participate in all phases of the project. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to Terri Rodgers at the OIPRD office @ 360-376-7275 Or Velma Doty with Kiwanis Club of Orcas Island @ 360-376-6847.
