Orcas Horns will play a lively show at Orcas Center on Saturday, October 9. Comprised of eight of the island’s most gifted musicians, Orcas Horns will be joined by a few guest artists, including some from the local dance community.
Led by trumpet player Steve Alboucq, Orcas Horns has been in existence about one and a half years. The impetus for the group came about when Martin Lund invited Steve to create some horn arrangements to accompany performers at the One World Festival. The successful performances and the enthusiastic crowd response were enough to get things started. Having played for several private and public functions, Orcas Horns will be playing their first full-length show at Orcas Center. According to Steve Alboucq, “We’ve prepared a wide-ranging collection of music in which every band member is featured. Expect everything from swinging jazz and ultra-funky grooves to soulful vocal ballads and sizzling afro-pop. Plus, expect some surprises and big fun.” Joining the group for the upcoming show will be Charly Robinson and Lorraine Feather (vocals), Willie Thomas (trumpet), and Chris Morton (keyboards).
In addition to Alboucq, Orcas Horns is comprised of Gregory Books, Jade Ismail, Martin Lund, Tony Morales, Gene Nery, Bruce Russell and Dimitri Stankevich.
Tickets to the Orcas Horns show on Saturday, October 9 at 7:30 pm are $25, $17 for Orcas Center members and $11 for students.
