Heinz Brand announced this weekend that the cannabis-growing operation on Orcas Island, NW Connoisseurs, has delivered “some of our finest locally-grown marijuana to Token Herb located at the Country Corner.”
A visit to Token Herb on Saturday afternoon found employees James Wolf and Sean O’Brien ready to help customers.
Behind the glass showcases are a variety of the cannabis herb, processed as bud, compacted hash, wax and edibles.
O’Brien says of the product from the NW Connoisseur’s growing operation:. “It’s an amazing product, all-round gorgeous weed, smooth smoke, with a nice natural good high. The growers know their stuff, they take their time.” Some of the packaged products from NW Connoisseur’s are labelled Dutch Treat, Blackberry Kush, Harlequin, Cherry Pie, Fire Alien Kush, Super Lemon Pie and Girl Scout Cookies.
The packages from both NW Connoisseurs and W.O.W. (from Klickitat County) list the ratio of the pyscho-active ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) to cannabidiol (CBD).
Though the afternoon was slow, the morning had been steadily busy, O’Brien and Wolf said. Notice of the product has spread by word-of-mouth and Facebook. The average customer is over 50 years of age and O’Brien is more than willing to educate those whose last toke may have been decades ago.
Geographic origin, hybridization, growth media, processing and aging can all affect the marijuana products. .The balance of their chemical components also affect reaction, as does the dosage. The THC content of marijuana is significantly higher now, O’Brien says. .
The effects of the marijuana products can have different results for every person, much like alcohol or pharmaceutical pills. It can be used as a pain reliever or a relaxant, though O’Brien says sometimes it spurs activity. Users say it gives them more perspective or creativity.
O’Brien has conducted extensive research into cannabis products, growers and retail outlets up and down the West Coast. His knowledge has enabled him to pass on cost decreases to Token Herb customers: for example, two grams from W.O.W. now cost $38 as opposed to $42 two months ago.
O’Brien is committed to educating his customers so that they have a good experience. “We want you to come back,” he says.
So far business at Token Herb has been steady, O’Brien and Wolf report. “The community is supportive, and appreciative of the jobs and revenue added to the local economy stream.”

A marijuana strain called “girl scout cookies”? For an industry supposedly dedicated to working to discouraging the use of their product by minors, is there really the best chose of a product name.
The term Girl Scout Cookies is a protected trademark.
Glad to see truth in advertising, that the intent of the sale is to produce a “high.” No more hiding behind the “medicinal purposes only” argument. Now if only the liquor stores would advertise their goal is to get people drunk the playing field would be level and everyone would be happier…
And I had the same thought about Girl Scout Cookies-someone is just looking for a lawsuit…
According to I502 recreational marijuana use is available to anyone over 21 with a valid ID we are not medicinal so there is no medicinal aspect to I 502 it is about adults deciding to get high. Please stop comparing legal taxed marijuana to that of medical marijuana that is a totally separate issue. According to the law passed by Washington state voters I 502 is strictly about getting high (no medicinal value). Please do your research before comparing the two so you can make a educated decision on where you stand. Next time you’re in a medical dispensary ask each of the bud tenders if they went to medical school? If answer is no than ask how are they allowed to give advice on pain management if they are not doctors according to Washington state law.
We understand and share your concern about the “Girl Scout Cookies” Strains Name. It is a very popular and widely grown Varietal. We are unable to change a commonly used Strain name,it describes a specific Flavor and Terpin Profile
but to address this Issue we will Label our Product as “GSC”
from now on. sincerely, NW-Connoisseurs your local Grower
These folks run a very nice shop and are great to do business with. Whether you agree or disagree with the outcome of the I-502 measure, we can finally say that the conversation is out in the open and we can stop pretending cannabis use is some sort of great sin. Studies have long shown the biggest risks of cannabis use were the legal implications during prohibition.
And if anyone can prove to me that naming a variety of bud “Girl Scout Cookie” results in actual Girl Scouts smoking it, I’ll eat my hat. This is entirely different than tobacco and alcohol companies deliberately marketing their products to underage consumers. If anything, this variety of pot has likely generated a ton of revenue for the Girl Scouts via increased cookie sales due to the munchies.
