The Orcas Food Cooperative is hiring a Member Drive Coordinator to work a three-month period starting in October 2013.

Background and Overview:
In 2013 the Orcas Food Cooperative incorporated as a Washington Non-Profit Cooperative Association. The Co-op has assembled a strong and dedicated team, with Learner Limbach acting as the Project Manager. Learner, along with the Board of Directors, is committed to opening the Co-op’s doors in the spring of 2014. Owned and operated by the members who it exists to serve, the Co-op will be a full-service grocery store.
To open its doors next spring, the Co-op must first secure capital funding to cover renovations, equipment, initial inventory, operating costs, and other startup expenses. The Co-op will launch a Member Drive to build community support and help raise the needed capital. The Member Drive Coordinator will be accountable to and work closely with the Project Manager (Learner Limbach) and the Board of Directors as needed to accomplish this goal within the allotted timeframe.
Member Drive Objectives: Secure a minimum of 250 founding members by November 15, 2013 and a minimum of 350 members by December 15th 2013.
Major Responsibilities of Member Drive Coordinator
- · Develop a clear timeline for the Membership Drive and set benchmark goals that will be used to monitor progress throughout the course of the project
- Create a budget for the entire Membership Drive (printing/material costs, farmers market booth, hall rental, etc.)
- Develop and implement a phone call campaign, which includes developing the project work plan, helping to create a team of volunteers, and managing volunteers.
- Develop and implement a plan for having a presence at a variety of venues on Orcas Island throughout the course of the Member Drive
- Think of creative ways to access a diversity of Orcas Island residents.
- Effectively collect and organize all information from Membership Drive (including from phone call campaign) into an orderly database.
- Meet with Learner once per week for 1-2 hours in order to evaluate and report on progress made toward accomplishing membership benchmarks.
- Create a list of all materials needed to complete the Membership Drive (fliers, membership materials, press releases, table tents, brochures, etc.) including identifying the dates when materials will be needed by
- Assist in creating content for promotional material, script for phone calling campaign and talking points throughout the Membership Drive
- Develop and implement a plan for maintaining communication with members and potential members in a variety of ways including social media and other web-based methods.
- Be in close communication with Learner and routinely transfer copies of all collected campaign data and information.
Required Qualifications
- Effective oral and written communication including ability to develop content for promotional material, talking points, etc.
- Ability to design and implement operational systems, particularly for communication and recordkeeping
- Experience coordinating volunteers
- Ability to delegate and follow-up effectively
- Understanding of and commitment to the Cooperative principles and values
- Must own a functional computer that supports Microsoft Office Applications (Word and Excel)
- Competence and ease in using e-mail, MS-Word, Excel, and ability to use web based marketing tools including email marketing (i.e. Nation Builder, Mail Chimp, Constant Contact) and social media (i.e. facebook)
- Passion for organization and attention to detail
Bonus Qualifications
- Successful phone call campaign experience
- Strong editing experience (i.e. newsletters, member communications, blog)
- Strong relationships within a variety of social circles on Orcas Island
Position Details
- · This is a contract position. Pay range is from $750 to $1,250 per month for the duration of the contract. Compensation will be negotiated at the beginning of the contract based on applicant’s experience level and skill set.
- · Position is flex-time from 15 to 30 hours per week as needed for successful Member Drive Campaign.
- · Contract position starts immediately and ends January 1, 2014.
- · There is opportunity for contract extension.
