The Orcas Island Board of Fire Commissioners is currently accepting applications for Fire Commissioner #1 following the resignation of Commissioner Amanda Montague. In accordance with RCW 42.12.070 the board will appoint a replacement to fill the remainder of Montague’s 6-year term, which expires January 1, 2020.
The Board of Fire Commissioners, which consists of five elected seats, is responsible for determining levels of service and establishing goals; determining type and level of funding, approving budgets and tax levies; establishing policies and approving operational procedures; guiding strategic planning; employing key personnel, supervising the Chief, and representing the district to the budget.
Commissioners meet once monthly and as needed for committees and other functions. Interested parties are asked to submit a letter of interest and resume to BOFC@orcasfire.org no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, July 5.
