This coming school year, students from Orcas Christian School will have the opportunity to broaden their horizons and put their faith into action during a mission trip to Hilo, Hawaii.

The trip, scheduled for the spring, will take students to Mauna Loa School, where they will roll up their sleeves for a week of service projects and community engagement. While in Hilo, the group will assist with general construction and campus improvements, helping enhance the learning environment for local students.

In addition to the hands-on work during the day, the Orcas students will host an evening worship program, offering music, encouragement, and fellowship for Mauna Loa School families and the surrounding community.

“Service learning is a vital part of our educational philosophy,” said Kyler Morgan of Orcas Christian School. “This trip allows our students not only to serve but also to build relationships and learn from another culture.”

Cultural immersion is also a key part of the experience. While in Hawaii, students will explore the rich heritage and natural beauty of the Big Island. From sampling traditional foods to learning about native Hawaiian history and customs, the trip aims to deepen students’ understanding of the islands and their people.

“This is about so much more than travel,” Morgan added. “It’s about growing compassion, humility, and respect for diverse cultures while living out the values of service.”

For many students, this will be their first time visiting Hawaii. The combination of meaningful service, cultural exploration, and spiritual connection promises to make the mission trip a memorable and life-shaping experience.

Orcas Christian School invites the community to support the students through prayer, encouragement, and fundraising efforts in the months ahead.
