The Met presents Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi streaming Live in HD at Orcas Center Sunday, January 8 at 1:00 pm. If you’ve not yet experienced the Metropolitan Opera streamed from New York City to Orcas Center this is your opportunity to experience an epic production where the legendary Placido Domingo plays the title king. In light of current events, the storyline of Nabucco is an especially apropos subject.

Plácido Domingo brings another new baritone role to the Met as the title king in Nabucco, under the baton of his longtime collaborator James Levine. Liudmyla Monastyrska is Abigaille, the warrior woman determined to rule empires. The star-crossed lovers are played by Jamie Barton as the heroic Fenena and Russell Thomas as Ismaele, nephew to the King of Jerusalem. Dmitry Belosselskiy, as the high priest Zaccaria, is the stentorian voice of the oppressed Hebrew people.

According to The New York Times: “Nabucco is defined by its choruses…The company’s ensemble, under the direction of Donald Palumbo, rose to the occasion with massed yet transparent, shimmering singing. [Levine] led the entire performance with an energy that never felt pressured; the score surged inexorably forward, though with the confidence and, yes, maturity, to linger in lyrical moments, serene and calm.”

Tickets for the Met’s Nabucco are $20, $15 for students, $2 off for Orcas Center members, and may be purchased at www.orcascenter.org or by calling 376-2281 ext. 1 or visiting the Orcas Center Box Office open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12-2 pm. $5 subsidized tickets available at the Box Office.
