The Lightning Thief is a high-energy rock musical adapted from Rick Riordan’s best-selling 2005 novel, the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. It has music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki and a book by Joe Tracz.
Percy Jackson is a teenager who keeps getting kicked out of school. Then a monster attacks him on a museum field trip, and he learns he is a demigod: the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. At Camp Half-Blood, he finds out that Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen and that he is the prime suspect. With his friends Annabeth and Grover, Percy sets out on a cross-country quest to find the bolt before war breaks out among the gods. The trail leads him all the way to the Underworld.
The score blends rock and pop with plenty of humor. Fan favorites include “Good Kid,” “Killer Quest!,” “The Campfire Song” and “Bring on the Monsters.”
