Island residents can help the Orcas Angels support the community by having their car washed by the Angels and helpers at the Eastsound Key Bank on Saturday, May 8 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The Angels, Jill Blankenship, Lori Gates and Liz Longworth, are a relatively new charity on Orcas that is dedicated to the well being and success of residents of Orcas Island. They work to assure that they have the resources to help out the people who sustain the island when they unexpectedly hit a time of need.
Through a partnership with the Stewardship Network of the San Juans and the local office of Key Bank, the Angels are putting on a series of “fish friendly” car washes, on May 8, June 12 and August 14. The car washers will be using products that are natural and meet the strict standards of the EPA “Design for the Environment “ program.
They will also be directing some of the wash water to landscaped areas to help let contaminants being washed off the cars be filtered by the soil and vegetation before going into the storm drain and into Fishing Bay. By getting cars or trucks washed in a “fish friendly” way, island residents can help the Orcas Angels support our community and care for our local marine critters too!
