The Orcas Island Elementary Schools 6th-grade leadership class, taught by Mandy Randolph, has planned daily events in celebration of Earth Week on Orcas Island.

On Monday, April 19, the school will observe “Minimal Power Day.” State law requires that the heat system be maintained, but there is no regulation about lights, so let the sun shine in!

On Tuesday, the students will celebrate “Outdoor Day” with nature walks, read under the Maple Tree, work in the school garden, ! and similar activities.

Wednesday is “Recycled Art Day,” when all students are encouraged to bring recylcable objects from home and the High School Environmental Club will work with the Kindergarten classes to create works of art from “previously used” objects.

Thursday is official “Earth Day.” All classes will choose a theme for marching in the Earth Day Parade. The Orcas High School’s Environmental Club will lead the parade, starting from the school at 1 p.m. and including the Middle and High School. Various groups and clubs from the school and community will march in the parade.

Friday, April 23 is “Clean-Up Day” when students will engage in decluttering and litter pick up at the school and in the community.
