Live music with Bedfellow at Doe Bay Bedfellow is the musical collaboration of Adam Porterfield (of Small Sails, Weinland, etc) and Emily Katz (Love Menu). With a folk sensibiliy infused with a little sexiness, Bedfellow makes music that makes you swoon and blush at the same time. Music starts at 7 p.m.  Make a night of it!  Guests with dinner reservations in the Café will get free day use passes to the spa (for use that day only)!  To make dinner reservations, please call the Café at 360-376-8059.

Student Chef Competition from  9:30 am to 3 pm @ the Public School Home Ec Room (behind the school cafeteria).  Presented by the Orcas Island Farm to Cafeteria Program, K-5 students start preparing their creations at 9:30 a.m. with awards for that group being given around 11:30.  Grades 6-12 will be starting at noon with awards being given around 2:30.  Sample all twelve of the amazing recipes our student chefs will be preparing. There’s no charge to come watch any time during the day and cheer for our incredible student chefs! Orcas Island Shakespeare Festival – All Day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., involving the participation of merchants, restaurants, artists, galleries, street performers, musicians and more turning Orcas, for one day, into Shakespeare Island! Orcas Island will step back in time and become ‘Shakespeare Island.’ Enjoy a Shakespeare-inspired Art Show … Local Shops with Elizabethan Displays … Street Festival in Eastsound (10 am – 4 pm) … musicians, performers, and Spontaneous Gaiety throughout Orcas Island! at  7:30 p.m. ,”Hamlet” will be performed on Orcas Center Stage (Orcas Center Tickets)

 ”Lunch & Learn” workshop with Patti Dobrowolski, author of Drawing Solutions,”   at Chilada’s Restaurant in Eastsound from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This workshop is held in conjunctions with Process Experts LLC and Vision2Reality. Cost is $45 and includes the workshop, book and lunch. Space is limited and participants must pre-register by calling Gretchen Krampf at 360-317-8220

Eagle Forum from 6 to 9 pm,  at the Rosario Beach House. Critical Areas Ordinance Town Hall Meeting. The speakers will be  land use attorney Sandy Mackie, Freedom Foundation’s Glen Morgan, CSA board members John Evans and Ed Kilduff, who is also a professional hydrologist, and Tom Ritter, former National Parks Assistant Superintendent. Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”  at 7:30 p.m. on Orcas Center Stage. The Seattle Shakespeare Company brings this  brisk and engaging adaptation of Shakespeare’s play, Prince Hamlet must navigate the treacherous court of Denmark after his uncle has usurped the throne. Seeking to avenge his father’s death, Hamlet finds that nothing is as it appears in this classic play of murder, betrayal, family, love and loss.  Cost: $16, $12 (Seniors), $10 (students). Orcas Horns Spring Shake-Down Dance Party  –  at the Odd Fellows Hall, Eastsound. The island’s premier funky soul band is throwing a dance to celebrate the Shakespeare Festival.  Everyone is invited to feast, dance and masque.  Doors and refreshments open at 7 pm; music at 8 pm.  Food by The Kitchen, with proceeds going to Haiti Relief.  Traditional Shakespearean beverages such as cider, ale, and mead will be served, with proceeds benefiting the Farm-To-Cafeteria Program.  Tickets at Darvill’s Bookstore at $12; $15 at the door.

Booster Club Non-Event Spring Fundraiser Have you bought your ticket to the biggest event on Orcas this spring? If not, the Orcas Island Booster Club invites you to stay seated, leave your shoes off and relax at home by buying a ticket to our first annual Non-Event Spring Fundraiser. The evening’s events will not start at 6, dinner will not be served at 7 and best of all, there will be no auction held at 8!  Instead, we invite you to enjoy a nice quite evening at home – or wherever you choose – knowing that 100% of your tax deductible ticket price will go to support the Orcas Island Athletic Programs.  For one evening feel free to do whatever you’ve always wanted to do – or not do- but never had time for, knowing that while you enjoy a little down time you are also helping to keep our student athletes busy.  By NOT getting dressed up, NOT spending a night out and by NOT attending this event, you can be a part of the solution. “The First Amendment and the Internet” CrossRoads Lecture 2 p.m. at the Orcas Center. Seattle University School of Law professor, David Skover, will speak on the First Amendment and the Internet.  Considering the traditional reasons given for serious protection of speech and press under the First Amendment, is there a disconnect between these reasons and the realities of the Internet? Free speech is a hot topic. Bring your questions/thoughts for the Q & A and reception following the presentation.
