Olga Daze was a beautiful day full of community, music, fun, games, and even some surprises. In my case, my friend Parker, visiting from California, and I, along with other kids, were invited to climb up to the top of one of the village fire trucks and, before we knew it, we were surprised to learn we were part of the parade.
From our prime seats we experienced the lively parade, which consisted of a band of adult drummers, followed by vintage cars, then residents and visitors of all ages waving cheerful streamers made from colorful pieces of fabric or tissue paper that they had tied to long twigs. Our fire truck trailed behind everyone as we walked toward the old General Store then turned back toward the start of the festivities.
In addition to a town band playing, rummage sale and food stand, there were lots of fun outdoor competitive games for kids and adults.
The three-legged races, sack races, crab walk, wheelbarrow competitions, and pie-eating contest were all reasons to come back to Olga Daze next year.
