Further test results pending
||| FROM ERIC WEBB, ORCAS SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT |||
Just this afternoon, OISD identified three secondary students in our district that tested positive for COVID-19 after OISD nursing staff administered the BinaxNow Rapid Test. Immediately after receiving the positive results, we followed with PCR tests. We hope to receive these results from the lab on Monday morning.
OISD is in constant communication with San Juan County Health & Community Services, and contract tracing efforts will be underway as soon as the PCR results are reported. If your child is believed to be at potential risk of exposure, a San Juan County nurse will contact you after the district and county receive the PCR test results. As always, the district will work closely with San Juan County Health & Community Services to determine the best course of action going forward and keep you informed.
Now more than ever, with the end of the school year in sight and many celebrations on the horizon, we need to remain vigilant and focus on what is working. Our best defense is to continue to practice and observe the many mitigating strategies we’ve worked so hard to maintain as a community to keep Orcas Islanders safe.
San Juan County will be offering the Pfizer vaccine on Orcas Island tomorrow, Saturday, May 15 and Friday, May 21 from 10:30am – 2:45 p.m. at the Orcas Center for students ages 12 through 17. More information can be found on the San Juan County COVID website, here.
Take care of one another and be well.

OVERALL PICTURE
Kids 12 and over are now eligible for vaccination. The County has scheduled five clinics with the Pfizer vaccine targeted specifically at these kids and their families (though anyone unvaccinated may sign up). Details on these clinics and a number of single shot walk-up clinics for adults are available at: http://www.sanjuanco.com/1737/COVID-Vaccine-Info. Please note that these clinics will be the very best chance for island kids 12 and older to get vaccinated. There may not be future 12+ clinics held in the islands.
