On the morning of July 13, 2012 at 4:04 a.m., Orcas Island Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a fire on Turtleback Mountain following an electrical storm that passed over Orcas.

On location, crews found a small smoldering fire located on the East side of Turtleback. Due to the storm and darkness, OIFR has been monitoring the fire and plans to deploy a fire crew within the hour.

The fire is not threatening any homes and there have been no injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but was most probably caused by a lightning strike.

Orcas Island Fire and Rescue reminds you to fully extinguish camp fires “dead out.”
