WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Rick Larsen (WA-02) released the following statement after voting to terminate President Trump’s abuse of “emergency” authorities to impose sweeping tariffs on U.S. imports from Canada. The resolution passed the House 219-211 with bipartisan support:

“The people I represent need immediate relief from President Trump’s stupid tariffs and high prices. That is why I helped lead the effort to force a vote on repealing the President’s tariffs on Canada.

“The President’s tariffs have destroyed local businesses and driven up costs for families in Whatcom County, Skagit County and all over Northwest Washington. The average Washington family paid $2,008 more for basic living expenses in 2025 than in 2024.

“The Administration should be working with Canada to reduce barriers between our two economies, create jobs and lower prices. It’s not complicated: trade good, tariffs bad.

“My colleagues in the Senate have already voted twice to end tariffs on Canada, and I urge them now to take up this legislation and send it to the President’s desk. I will keep fighting to bring down costs in Washington state and make the U.S.-Canada relationship boring again.”
