Saturday, June 22, noon, beautiful downtown Eastsound
— from Laura Gibbons —
Everyone is invited to celebrate the 21st Annual Summer Solstice Parade on Saturday June 22nd at noon in Eastsound. The theme is “Carnival of Element.”
The always colorful, whimsical procession will once again glide, swirl, and dance starting at Haven and Main Street to North Beach Road and loop into the Village Green. Immediately following the parade, all are invited to join the conga line on the Green.
The festivities will continue with DJ Bodhicypha, Emcee Mark Padbury, and The Elements playing late 70s and early 80s reggae songs in their traditional arrangements. The Elements focus on positive messages and danceable grooves to uplift their audience. This three-piece vocal group is made up of seasoned musicians and long-time islanders, Randy Smith, Andrew Moore, Fabrice Van Putin, Dan Burke, and island newcomer Kady Fox.
Parade participants are asked to arrive by 11:30 am at Haven Road. Haven intersects Main Street and signage will point the way. No pre-registration is required. Volunteers will be on hand to help participants find a place in the line-up.
The parade is a foot parade, including bicycles, wagons, carts, and people powered floats. Please no motorized vehicles, livestock, or written words. This annual family friendly event celebrates art, summer, and community — Orcas style.
Join the fun! Free and open to all. For more information or to volunteer please call Laura Gibbons at (360) 376-5458. Happy summer!

A most exhilarating and inspiring tradition!
Remember, wasn’t it the first one that had the “Odds” with their wheelbarrow full of computers/parts…
