Orcas Christian School has added a new class designed to develop student leaders through service to the school.

The high school elective, titled Campus Life, allows students to work as a team and take responsibility for organizing school events, with a goal of “positive growth and fun for the school,” said the elective teacher, Mr. Rivera.

Students have already embraced their new roles, organizing events such as field days and games in the chapel. They are currently planning a breakfast for OCS students to raise money for their mission trip to Hawaii.

Initially, Mr. Rivera said he was hesitant to run the new class at the start of the year. But after Principal Mr. Morgan explained that the course would provide opportunities for creativity and leadership, he became excited. Now, he takes pride in seeing “young students stepping up to the plate and taking leadership.”

As the year progresses, the students continue to excel, demonstrating growth and development in their work. The school looks forward to seeing what they will create next.
