Construction on Deer Harbor Rd begins August 15 to relocate a portion of the road near West Sound due to a high bank road slump threatening the roadway. (see map below) Roadwork will reduce Deer Harbor Rd to a single lane of traffic during weekday working hours. Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic through the work zone.
San Juan County Public Works and Tiger Construction are working together to ensure a safe environment during the expected five weeks of construction. San Juan County asks drivers to exercise caution when traveling through construction zones and to plan extra time for their commute in case of delays.
Remember, please drive slowly during construction days:
- For their safety: you are driving through an active construction zone – obey flaggers and traffic signs.
- For your safety: excessive speeds may kick up debris into oncoming traffic.
- It’s your road: please respect ongoing efforts to care for county roads and plan your travel accordingly
San Juan County develops and maintains a multi-year plan to preserve roads in the most cost-effective way and uses best practices to help keep rides smooth and safe for drivers. Deer Harbor Road Work Map

IF the road actually needs moved back from the bank for safety reasons, then of course it should be done, but is there some reason it has to be done right now? At the height of the busy season?
