“Scientists are closer than ever to deciphering the secret language of sperm whales. AI could be the key.”

Whales are highly intelligent, social creatures, so it makes sense that their songs and clicks are probably more than just random sounds. But just how complex is whale speak?

I’d be more inclined to read it if it were published in Science or Nature magazines.
Using AI to try to understand the whales makes me so sad.
* AI is horrifically damaging to the world.
* Constant monitoring of whales is harassment, invasive, awful.
* When have humans ever used technology to improve the lives of non-humans??? Never. Our technologies have made life worse for non-humans and destroyed their homes since we first began inventing technologies.
* Generally when humans have better technology, we use it to extract more from the environment.
* Creating a “three-dimensional, interactive map of the whales’ locations at all times” sounds like a great way to exploit the whales further.
* Some things should remain a mystery.
* Whales deserve peace.
