Mary Jo ahern and Alyson Stephens will offer Zumba classes Wednesday mornings at Odd Fellows Hall

Local fans of the worldwide dance fitness craze no longer need DVDs to get their Zumba fix.  Starting on October 26th, Zumba will be offered at Odd Fellows Hall, every Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30.

With the motto “Ditch the Workout, Join the Party,” Zumba features easy-to-follow dance steps set to Latin and international music.  Zumba classes are designed to be exhilarating and fun, while burning calories and improving cardiovascular fitness.

Orcas Islanders Mary Jo Ahern and Alyson Stephens will teach the new class.  With their combined professional background, they are able to make their class appropriate for people of all fitness levels.   Mary Jo is a massage therapist at Healing Arts Center, and also teaches kettlebells strength-training classes at Fitness Quest NW.  Certified as a Zumba instructor last January, she has been leading Zumba routines as a warm up in her kettlebells classes.

Alyson fell in love with Zumba in Mary Jo’s kettlebells class, and got her Zumba instructor certification in August.  Alyson is a physical therapist with Orcas Island Physical Therapy.

The classes cost $40 for a 5-class punchcard, $70 for 10 classes, or $9 for a single class.  The first class is free of charge.  Participants should wear athletic shoes and bring water.  More information can be found by phoning Mary Jo at 622-6089, or emailing Alyson at AlysonClarkStephens@gmail.com
