The Orcas Center is hosting three young playwrights from EST’s YoungBlood Program in New York as they finish drafts of three new plays. On January 20th and 21st there will be public staged readings of the plays followed by talk backs with the playwrights about the works as well as their writing process. Join us as we pull back the curtains for a behind the scenes look at the early stages of play development with talkbacks each night with the playwrights. All plays are directed by Pepper Binkley.

All the Other Animals by Justice Hehir (Friday, January 20)
A wildlife rehabber, her protege, her hot son, and her mother with dementia riding out a power failure with nine wild animals. It examines the intimate and diverse roles we take caring for one another and the animals in our world. Cast: Tiffany Loney, Jamey Moriarty, Chelsea Sherman, Melinda Milligan

Pod:Orca:Pod by Brysen Boyd (Saturday, January 21)
This personal and poetic play bridges the author’s obsession with the Sound and his Mexican heritage by invoking the matriarchy of an Orca pod. The poetic nature of the piece is underscored by overlapping text, movement and sound. The voices belong a grandmother, mother, and son. The journey is both that of an Orca’s migration and the migrant’s journey to America. Cast: Eli Zavatsky, Jamey Moriarty, and Sophia Poe, with members of the Orcas Dance Collective

ALL IN by Michael Feldman (Saturday, January 21)
ALL IN takes a peek inside a fictional entity All In Campaign to End Gun Violence based on the playwright’s own experience working for Everytown. It looks at the uniquely American problem of mass shootings and asks what it will take to unite a country divided to pass gun safety laws. Cast: Bianca Cox and Pedro LopezDeVictoria.

Ticket prices range from $10-$59. Masking is required in the theatre. Call 360-376-2281 ext 100, or visit www.orcascenter.org for tickets and more information.
