||| FROM AMY SCARTON for WASHINGTON STATE FERRIES |||
Washington State Ferries will soon have a new leader. Last week, WSDOT Secretary Roger Millar announced an upcoming change in leadership that’s bittersweet for me. While it’s an honor to be chosen as the agency’s next Deputy Secretary – the first time that the head of ferries has been promoted to WSDOT’s second in command – it will be difficult to leave my amazing group of colleagues at WSF. We’ve accomplished so much together over the past four years! I’m lucky though, because my new role allows me to still represent ferries, as well as all the other divisions throughout the agency.
Ordinary seaman training was one of many WSF experiences that better prepare me to serve as WSDOT deputy secretary.
I’m also fortunate to know and respect my replacement. My colleague Patty Rubstello currently leads WSDOT’s Office of Urban Mobility & Access. She brings a wealth of operational and engineering knowledge. I will work side by side with her during a lengthy transition to ensure this move is as smooth as possible. Thankfully, these changes are internal, and I will still be able to represent and fight for WSF in Olympia!
