The School of the Salish Sea is accepting new students for enrollment this fall and will be offering programs for parents and children from birth to age 7.
The School of the Salish Sea is “mentored and supported by a multi-generational Waldorf community that originally came together once before on Orcas as the Dolphin Bay Waldorf School,” says school organizer Liz Hance. “The school is committed to offering an education that recognizes the inherent wisdom in children and motivates their highest capacities in fulfilling, joyous ways.”
Ronna McEldowney will be the primary teacher for the new pre-school and kindergarten. She has been a trained Waldorf teacher for over 32 years. She has helped start and mentor Waldorf schools all over the country.
Jesica Sweedler DeHart, school administrator/director, says, “Ronna works artistically and practically with the natural world which inspires children to strive for the highest good. McEldowney and her husband, Robert David, have visited Orcas before and are excited to join the island community.”
The couple will move to Orcas Island next month. A community tea will be held Aug. 9, from 2-4 p.m. in honour of the arrival of Ronna and Robert David. The public is invited to meet the School of the Salish Sea’s new teacher.
The first day of school is set for Sept. 1, 2009. The school is located in Eastsound at 2208 Enchanted Forest Road. Set on 14 acres among a garden, orchard and forest, the school “offers a true Waldorf educational experience,” says Hance.
The school can be found on the web at www.schoolofthesalishsea.org or the summer contact phone numbers are 376-4552 or 928-458-0552.
