Island Rides on Orcas has two sayings, “Driven by Volunteers, Powered by Electricity“ and “Donations are Accepted – but not Expected.”

On Wednesday, March 14, 2023 Sandy Playa accepted an unexpected donation when Orcas Islander Sarah Rehder handed over the keys (and title!) of her 2014 BMW i3 EV to Island Rides on Orcas.

This generously donated car will join the two Nissan Leafs in this growing nonprofit program dedicated to providing free rides and deliveries to Orcas Island residents without access to transportation.

Island Rides fleet of electric vehicles is driven by an eclectic group of amazing volunteers from 10am-3pm (at least), 7 days a week.

They take islanders to markets, medical appointments, work, Senior Center lunches, ferries, classes, banks, pharmacy, auto repair shops and to visit friends. They provide weekly deliveries from the Food Bank for islanders who are unable to leave their homes.  They deliver walkers and wheelchairs in cooperation with the Lions’ Club lending closet, essential goods from the Community Resource Center, and meals from the American Legion.

If you need a ride or a delivery, or would like to volunteer to drive for people who do, give Island Rides on Orcas a call @ 360-672-2201.
