On September 18, Dr. Sarah Van Gaasbeek joined Island Primary Care – M Avenue Clinic. Van Gaasbeek specializes in family medicine with obstetrics. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky and is board certified in family medicine.

Van Gaasbeek was a Resident Physician and OB/Pediatric Chief Resident at UC Health Family Medicine Residency in Fort Collins, Colorado where she diagnosed and treated a wide variety of diseases in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Most recently she completed an OB Fellowship at Spokane Teaching Health Center where she managed high risk and surgical obstetrics.

While full family care is Van Gaasbeek’s main clinical interest, she is also invested in women’s health and obesity medicine, with board certification pending in obesity medicine. Her philosophy of care centers on being immersed within her community.

“I love caring for the entire family, and it’s the connections with patients that motivate me,” Van Gaasbeek said. “Being a family medicine doctor allows me to walk through the joys and sorrows of life alongside my patients.”

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jason Hogge is excited for the addition of Van Gaasbeek to the primary care team. “Our primary care team is going to benefit from not only her knowledge and experience, but her earnest care for her patients. In addition, Dr. Van Gaasbeek brings specialized training in obesity ensuring our patients have access to evidence-based approaches to weight loss,” Hogge said.

Van Gaasbeek moved to Anacortes from Fort Collins, Colorado with her husband, daughter and their Great Pyrenees/Anatolian shepherd mix. As a family, they love supporting their favorite sports teams and spending time outdoors, either biking or on the water.
