Six dogs arrived on Orcas Wednesday night from Skagit County Fairgrounds, where they had been taken following their seizure from a puppy mill.

They are not being adopted out as yet because of legal issues regarding their ownership, said Rick Gould, photographer of the accompanying picture.

“It is hard to imagine the efforts needed to handle 600 confiscated dogs, many of which are pregnant!” said Gould.Skagit County sheriff’s deputies  seized over 450  dogs from a property outside of Mount Vernon, as reported in the Seattle Times.

The dogs were taken to the Skagit Valley Fairgrounds. The seizures are part of an ongoing probe into alleged puppy mills in Skagit and Snohomish counties.
