Crow Valley Pottery announces its 16th annual Garden Art Show, which opens Friday, June 28th with an opening reception at the historic Cabin shop, from 4 to 7PM. The focus of this year’s show is the use of natural and re-purposed materials in art.

With the prevalent availability of imported wares and copies of traditional American crafts, this year’s Garden Art Show features offerings by local and regional artists and craftsmen utilizing long established techniques. From collections in ceramics, metal and glass come handmade pieces from flower pots to garden accents. Another popular Northwest style is art created from ‘found-objects’ or ‘re-purposed’ materials. Where old and frequently discarded items are re-used to create new functional and decorative pieces. This now-established and respected art form displays amazing creativity in each piece!

Lynda Nielson of Woodlands Park Garden Pottery hand-makes every flower pot, with designs drawn from the very plants and flowers her pots may well end up hosting! These pots tend to have very limited availability, but Lynda has created an extensive collection just for the Crow Valley show. And Lynda will be present at the show to discuss her hand crafting techniques!

Also of note is the found-object fence toppers made by Dave Kearns. This noted architect and artist assembles a variety of old bits—from garden tools to auto parts—to make these brilliant garden pieces! Again, the collection was made just for the Crow Valley show, and represents why the ‘re-purposed’ art movement is so popular these days!

Crow Valley Pottery is also a supporter of the Orcas Island Garden Tour, and as such offers special discounts on garden art when tour tickets are presented at the Garden Show on Saturday and Sunday.

Crow Valley’s Garden Art Show runs from June 28th through July 15th. Please contact the shop at 376-4260 for additional information.
