Thank you, Senator Murray, for this message and your opposition to the “Surpressing American Voters Effectively” Act, which is, happily, not an act yet. We all remember that Trump has baselessly warned about voter fraud in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 elections, while at the same time saying he wouldn’t necessarily accept the results if he lost those elections–thus setting us up for his own potential tampering with the democratic voting process. We also remember that he has recently granted clemency to 1,600 January 6 rioters who tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election, and who were responsible for five deaths and injuries to 170 police officers. The “SAVE Act” is the next act in Trump’s plot to overturn fair elections and gut the equal protection provisions of the 1965 Voter Rights Act.
It would be helpful if you would publish the names of your fellow senators who support this bill.
Bring your ID. Vote. Just like it used to be. I do not understand opposition to voter ID.
Gary, this is NOT just like it used to be–it’s entirely new and different. If you want to register to vote for the first time–for example if you are a citizen and have moved to a new state–you would need to register in person with a passport or birth certificate. (Is your wife’s married name that same as the name on her birth certificate?). Drivers’ license, even an enhanced one, won’t do. Even if you’re already registered, you wouldn’t be able to vote by mail without a photocopy of an acceptable ID. This is not election safeguarding–there is no voter fraud; it’s voter suppression and another step to overturn American constitutional democracy. Please watch the video.
