The Orcas Youth Conservation Corps (OYCC) start-up group is hosting a presentation gathering at the Funhouse Commons at 6:30 p.m. We have inter-island collaborators coming to share the success of the conservation corps programs on both Lopez and San Juan islands.
Tuesday, December 11
SeaDoc’s Family Night dinner for our December Marine Science Lecture. Dinner at 5:30 p.m., Lecture at 7 p.m., Camp Orkila). Dr. Leslie Dierauf, a veterinarian, scientist and former Northwest Regional Director of the US Geological Survey, will talk about the how the marine environment will be affected by climate change. Location: Larry Norman Lodge at Camp Orkila. Come at 5:30pm for a free dinner sponsored by YMCA Camp Orkila. The talk (also free, of course) starts at 7 p.m. 376-3910.

Orcas Island School District Meeting at 4:30 p.m. in the School Library. The Board may adjourn to meet in a closed Executive Session regarding personnel matters. The regular meeting is scheduled to re-convene at 5 p.m. On the agenda are reports on the High School siding project, plans for the Annual Board Retreat in January and the Bond and Tech Levy, discussions with the public library, and approval of a resolution authorizing the sale of General Obligation Bonds. New Board officers will be elected.
Thursday, December 13
Special Port Meeting 5 p.m. in the Port Conference Rom to discuss with legal counsel representing the agency matters relating to litigation to which the agency/governing body is a party. The executive session is a part of the regularly scheduled meeting, which will follow. 376-5285
Orcas High School music students will present a program of holiday classics at their concert 7 p.m. High School Strings, Band and Choir students will be performing at Orcas Center.

FREE Concert by Orcas Island Community Band, Orcas Center, 2 p.m. A crowd favorite is the audience sing-a-long to carols and afterwards, the Band provides to the audience a free dessert party in the spirit of the holiday season!

Two Arias from Handel’s Messiah, sung by Sharon Abreu in a Lessons & Carols service at the Emmanuel Church in Eastsound starting at 5 p.m. There will be lots of carols to sing along with.
Auditions at Orcas Center for a community production of the classical musical, Oliver! 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.Known around the world as the greatest musical ever written for child actors, Orcas Center is excited about providing a new generation of children this opportunity to shine on stage!
