By the Chamber Music Festival Office

The best way to discover what awaits concert-goers this summer is to attend the Music Lovers’ Seminar Saturday.  Popular musician, conductor and lecturer George Shangrow will provide an entertaining and informative overview of OICMF’s 13th Season from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church on Saturday, May 22nd.  The Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival takes place August 12th through 28th. Tickets go on sale to the general public May 26th.

You’ll learn fascinating facts about the composers and listen to elements of the compositions from a passionate lover of music whose enthusiasm is contagious.  George Shangrow is well known for his historical knowledge blended with contemporary wit.

As a Conductor and Music Director, Shangrow founded the Seattle Chamber Singers in 1969 and Orchestra Seattle in 1979. He has appeared as guest conductor with the Seattle Symphony, Northwest Chamber Orchestra, Tacoma Opera, Rudolf Nureyev and Friends, Oregon Symphony and the Sapporo (Japan) Symphony.  He has taught music history, theory and composition at Seattle University, Seattle Community College and Seattle Conservatory of Music. Seattle-area music lovers know him as former host of the “Live! By George” radio program on Classical KING-FM.

Tuition is $30, and youth ages 10+ are encouraged to attend at no charge.  Please bring a brown bag lunch.  Beverages and treats will be provided from OICMF enthusiasts Velma Doty, Karen Hedge, Trisha Loop, Mary Poletti and Eileen Pyka.

To register, send your check to OICMF, PO Box 646, Eastsound, WA 98245 or call 376-6636 or email joyce@oicmf.org.  Participants may also register at the door the day of the seminar if space is available.
