Orcas Island Music Advocacy Group (MAG) champions public school music education on Orcas Island.  MAG traditionally presents “100 Musicians! 1 Great Cause!” every spring.  This is MAG’s annual fund raiser concert, showcasing student musicians and community music groups.  Pandemic restrictions cancelled this year’s in-person concert, but MAG is delighted to announce a special concert video that everyone in the community can enjoy online.

Over the past year of social distancing, Orcas Island School District (OISD) music teachers, Pamela Wright and Darren Dix, have continued teaching music.  In order to rehearse together remotely, they and their students utilized audio and video recording and editing tools that MAG helped to purchase.  This March, the teachers created student recitals that showcase OISD Strings and Band groups for MAG’s special video in lieu of the annual concert.  Directors of the Island Sinfonia, Orcas Island Community Band, Orcas Choral Society, and Orcas Youth Chorus also appear in the video along with Pamela and Darren in support of school music.

Help applaud our student musicians and their teachers by watching “2021 Surprise Concert for School Music” at MAG’s Web site, OIMAG.ORG, on their Facebook page, and on their YouTube Channel, and please consider contributing financially to MAG.  Your contributions help MAG every year to pay for sheet music, instruments, technical equipment, transportation & competition fees, and most recently, Covid19 protective gear for student musicians.

Thank you, Orcas Island community, for supporting school music.
