Reception: Thursday, February 6, 4-6 p.m., Orcas Historical Museum
— from Carol Kulminski for Orcas Island Historical Museums —
Opening reception with light refreshments on Thursday, February 6, 4-6 pm at 181 North Beach Rd.
Our Winter exhibit explores the history of three women’s clubs on Orcas Island, as told by the groups themselves. The Fidelis Circle, The Madrona Club, and Stitch & Gossip were all founded in the first half of the twentieth century and are all still active today. They’ve helped connect generations of Orcas women with each other, and their decades of outward-facing community work have had outsized impacts on every Islander’s life. This exhibit gives these women a chance to tell their stories: what these clubs have meant for generations of members, and for the island at large.
This exhibit will run February 1 through June 28.

Do you also have stories about the Rebekahs, who were the Odd Fellows’ distaff side? Their interests included dressing up and marching in long gowns.
We would love to have that history! If you can’t come Thursday, please stop by when the museum is open and share those stories or let us know where we can find out more!
