The Heron sculpture by Todd Spalti was installed at the Orcas Island Historical Museum June 28th. It quickly became a focal point for the Museum, almost constantly surrounded by photographers and viewers of all ages. The Museum has been waiting to hold an official dedication until adjacent landscaping has been completed. Now that it has, the sculpture will be officially dedicated Saturday, October 9th, at 1PM.
Traditionally, the Museum has held a closing party in early October. Now that they stay open Saturdays all year, it was to be an end-of-season party. Instead, this year they will combine the two events. Fresh-pressed apple cider will be served along with taste treats.
Artist Todd will give a short talk at 1:30, covering how he got the giant cedar log to Orcas Island, and his experiences during the carving.

This may be a good occasion to point out another Todd Spalti creation, the “frog” bench that graces the main entrance to the Orcas Center. The bench was donated by several Orcas residents to honor Dale Pederson who did so much to make the Orcas Center become a reality for our island community to use and enjoy.
