On Thursday, July 28, at 12:50 p.m., units from Orcas Fire and Rescue, Airlift Northwest, and San Juan EMS were dispatched to remote Decatur Island to assist with a female patient who was in cardiac arrest.
Eight members of the Marine Response Team responded, including two San Juan deputies from Orcas. San Juan EMS also responded in a boat from the Sheriff’s Office. Airlift Northwest was the first to arrive on the scene where CPR was in progress by local residents.
The patient was declared dead on the scene.
