Saturday, December 1, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Orcas Montessori School
— from Teresa Chocano for Orcas Montessori School —
It is a beautiful thing when a vision comes true! Having a labyrinth to call its own has been an aspiration of the Orcas Montessori School (OMS), and now that is exactly what has recently come to fruition. With a team of a few and then many, the OMS Labyrinth was installed in the backyard of the school this past month.
What began as a conversation during an OMS staff meeting, led to reaching out to fellow islander, Nancy Ayer, who was integral in the vision/installation of the labyrinth at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Eastsound. Nancy, with much enthusiasm and support, reached out to her friend and Certified Labyrinth Facilitator/Artist, Myra Ryneheart Corcorran. Myra and Nancy spent many hours at the school, which resulted in the design of a Three-Circuit Story Path. In wanting to be environmentally focused, budget friendly, and creative, the Labyrinth result is an in-laid brick design with donated materials.
The day of installation was well attended, by OMS staff, parents, children and friends. Everyone grabbed a shovel, pail, sand, brick and more and completed the project in under a day’s time. It was truly a lovely sight to see so many enjoying the day, dirt on hands and feet, putting into action the long time vision!
Please join us for a casual OMS Labyrinth Dedication and walk-thru on December 1, 2018 at the Orcas Montessori School. Come anytime from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. For more information about Myra and her work, please go to The Laughing Flower Co. website.
