This year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event will take place at the Emmanuel Episcopal Parish Hall, 242 Main Street in Eastsound on Sunday, January 15 from 3:00 until 4:30.

This year’s event will feature screenings of two important speeches about peace, Dr. King’s speech Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence delivered on April 4, 1967 and President John F. Kennedy’s commencement address at American University delivered on June 10, 1963, which has become known as his peace speech. June 10, 2023 will mark the 60th anniversary of this speech.

After the screenings we’ll have some discussion. And of course there will be some singing as well.

Come join us for what promises to be a deep, meaningful discussion with fellow community members as we approach the June 10th anniversary, as our government continues to engage in war after war.

This event, co-sponsored by Emmanuel Episcopal Church and Irthlingz Arts-Based Environmental Education, is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome and will benefit the Orcas Island Food Bank and the Veterans for Peace Climate Crisis & Militarism Project.

Wishing you all the very best in this New Year!
