Missing mother and daughter, missing since July 31, found August 6 and back home.

Nancy May Knapp’s two golden retrievers/yellow Lab mixes, Mother Lucy and Daughter Gracie have come home after a week missing.

The two dogs were found by a hiking honeymoon couple near the gravel pit.  “The mama dog was injured and the baby dog wouldn’t leave her,” said Nancy. They brought them to Mary at Orcas Kennels, who immediately contacted Nancy.

Nancy was overwhelmed by the experience; she was joined by over 200 people getting the word out, searching, offering suggestions. Nancy herself was out every evening in the quiet, after-midnight hours, “with my Vikings megaphone calling to them.”

“People I didn’t know, from other islands — the deputies were amazing. I didn’t ask for any help and I was just blown away. It sounds awkward but it’s been a blessing; I think it’s also a wonderful reminder to love and treasure what you have, even though everyone is having a hard time.

“It’s our own version of the Olympics: everybody had faith and everybody helped.  Everybody had different ideas, and I did everything and it all worked. “

Lucie has suffered injuries to her feet, but they are healing and she is going to be fine, Nancy says. “It’s a gentle reminder to always say ‘I  love you’ and treasure what you have.

“I love you.”
